I think its the articulation on the modern figures that really does it for me, before 2003, no figure at that size had articulation even approaching the level of insanity the full action body had, and they are easily mixed and matched, great for customs, compatible with a ton of unrelated accessories and vehicles, and their own accessories can be infinitely combined, other than the breakage issues, they kind of represented the perfect humanoid figure at that size IMO Buy Bandai, Takara Tomy, Tamiya and lots of other brands from Japan.
